Ride-A-Test

Lake Washington Saddle Club & Equestrians' Institute

Present the Second Annual Region 6 Youth

Ride-a-Test Fund Raiser

Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Bridle Trails State Park

Riders, this is your chance to Ride Your Test and then discuss it with the Judge -- a "Ride-A-Test" Schooling Show/Clinic.  LWSC and EI have joined forces to help fund raise for the Region 6 Youth Programs by offering this opportunity.

So what IS a "Ride-A-Test" program?  You start by, well, RIDING your test in the Dressage Arena before one of our two judges, Kari McClain, "S-FEI***" Judge, from Olympia or Teresa Stewart, "R" Judge, from Whidbey Island (more about our judges in a bit).  After riding your test, you'll go up to the judge's box and discuss the test -- what was good, what could be better.  You'll then go back to the warm-up area and work with one of the volunteer trainers (or your own trainer if you wish) on one or more of the issues highlighted by the judge (not too long but long enough to perhaps fix a thing or two).  Then back before the same judge to ride the same test and see if you've made an improvement.

Each ride "session" will be 12 minutes to allow time to talk with the judge and will give you time (about 25 minutes) to work with the trainer between the first and second ride.

Who ARE the judges who are donating their time and experience for this Fund Raiser?

Kari McClain, from Olympia, a well known USEF "S" Judge who judges all around the US and is one of the US's newest FEI*** International Judges.  She is also the owner and primary trainer at her barn, Miari Stables in Olympia.  Oh, and she was one of the very first to ride in the Young Riders Program (just a few years ago!).

Teresa Stewart, of Coupeville, Whidbey Island, is an "R" judge and FEI Rider.  Teresa has been showing for many years and came to dressage from the eventer world.  She is one of our Region's up and coming judges.

Who are the Trainers?

The following FEI Level Trainers have volunteered to work with the entrants during the Show:

Molly Martin from Kirkland

Matt Eagan from Snohomish

Nicki Grandia from Snohomish

Amanda Olson

Morgan Barrows

The Facility, Bridle Trails State Park, Kirkland, Washington

Bridle Trails has two full sized Dressage Rings with sand footing in addition to a big warm-up.  With very easy access from I-405, it provides a perfect venue for this show/clinic.  Although many (most) people may want to just work out of their trailer, LWSC has offered use of their stalls at the south end of the parking lot for just $25 for the day (no bedding and stalls must be stripped prior to departure).  Oh, and when you are finished with your second ride, take the time to cool out by riding into the park -- your horse will love it.

Classes Offered:

As this is a Schooling Show, just about any Dressage Class you want to ride can be offered including Eventing Classes (YES, you Eventers out there -- take this opportunity to work "in the sandbox" which is how you win!).  If Management has a question about what Class you suggest, you'll be contacted.

However, USEF Training - Fourth Level and FEI PSG, I1, I2 and Grand Prix will be offered (at this time, it is not contemplated to have Freestyles).

Cost -- This IS a Fund Raiser, the fee is $135 for which you get TWO rides, Time with your Judge and work with one of our FEI Level Trainers on issues highlighted by the judge.
