There is an active eruption at the moment, but you can't see it and people are strongly discouraged from trying to get to it. A new rift has permitted lava to flow through tubes into the ocean at the south part of the Park. The best evidence of the lava flow is the steam plume which can be seen for miles. We drove the road toward the flow knowing we couldn't get very far (this picture was taken about 1/2 mile from the end of the road which has been closed due to a massive lava flow over the road). I've always heard "Buy waterfront--they don't make it anymore." Not always true!
